MAGUS Stereo 9T Stereomicroscope and MAGUS CHD40 Digital Camera: a review from Sapienza University of Rome

We’d like to share another review from Italy with you. This time, a researcher from Sapienza University of Rome shared their impressions of working with us.

The author of the review, researcher and mineralogist Rossano Carlini, uses the MAGUS Stereo 9T stereoscopic microscope and MAGUS CHD40 digital camera in their research. They highlight the high quality of the optical components and they share the photographs taken during the work process.

Translation of the review from Italian.

MAGUS 9T Stereomicroscope + MAGUS CHD40 Digital Camera: First Impressions
Rossano Carlini, Mineralogist
Assessment of the microscope reveals its high-quality optics and illumination, excellent zoom and focusing capabilities, and optimal depth of field, enabling easy three-dimensional image viewing. The only drawback is that the eyepieces tend to drift outward during observation. A more robust interpupillary adjustment mechanism would be beneficial.
MAGUS CHD40 digital camera: This is a quality device, although the initial setup and focusing are quite complicated. A printed instruction manual was not included with the camera, but it was readily available for download from the official MAGUS website. The software is excellent overall, but the multi-focus system is not intuitive. When using the multi-focus system, it is recommended to take many sequential shots (3-4 shots per mm) and use Helicon for image reconstruction. Some flickering occurs in the images at high magnifications, but that can certainly be resolved by working with the settings.
